Dewar’s Product Rendering & R&D

Dewar’s Product Rendering & R&D
HTaak Studios was commissioned to explore a series of high-end CGI treatments for Dewar’s, with a focus on photorealism, elevated motion, and seamless brand storytelling. The aim was to develop a visual language that felt premium and authentic, celebrating the heritage of the product while presenting it in a more dynamic and contemporary way.

This stage centred around detailed look development, R&D, and visual testing. The result was a robust toolkit of assets and techniques to support future campaign content across both stills and motion.

Seamless Visual Execution
Photorealism sat at the heart of the project. Each asset was crafted with precision, capturing the nuanced textures of glass, paper, and liquid. We introduced subtle imperfections to break the digital polish, such as slight label variation, natural glass warping, and fine dust, helping the product feel tactile and lived-in. Camera work and lighting were developed in tandem to elevate detail, depth, and visual presence.

Essential Tools Utilised:

  • Cinema 4D: Used for 3D modelling and building a fully flexible product asset system.

  • Redshift: Employed for high-end rendering, with layered shaders built for glass, foil, and liquid.

  • X-Particles: Used for early exploration of condensation, splash elements, and motion tests.

  • After Effects: For retiming, light compositing, and motion experimentation.

  • Fused: Assisted with scene management and rapid iterations during look development.

Challenges and Solutions:

  • Achieving Realism with Control: Balanced physical accuracy with creative direction by developing custom shaders and lighting rigs to provide full flexibility.

  • Detail Without Overload: Built complexity into materials and lighting while ensuring assets remained efficient and responsive for ongoing creative review.

  • Seamless Integration: Tested assets across various environments to ensure they would blend naturally with photography or live footage without heavy compositing adjustments.

  • Creative Adaptability: Designed a modular system to allow for quick changes across multiple product variants and campaign formats.

The outcome was a refined, photoreal visual language for Dewar’s that supported both the premium positioning of the brand and the creative flexibility needed for future rollout. The work established a clear direction for product storytelling through realism, precision, and elevated design.

Outcomes of the R&D Phase:

  • High-fidelity hero bottle assets

  • Custom shader and lighting presets

  • Motion studies and animation tests

  • Photoreal lookbook for creative alignment

  • Modular asset pipeline for future production
