Award-Winning Key Art: Zombieland 2: Double Tap
For the award-winning poster of Zombieland 2: Double Tap, my aim was to showcase the group’s journey over the years as they navigated the challenges of being some of the few survivors in a zombie apocalypse. Understanding the essence of the film and the characters, I wanted the design to reflect their growth, resilience, and camaraderie amidst the chaos.

Given that I wasn't restricted to pre-shoot assets, I realised that creating the posters in 3D would be the most effective way to push the creative boundaries. This approach allowed me to bring a dynamic and engaging perspective to the artwork, making it feel fresh and relevant to the film's tone. The brief also specified the inclusion of the monster truck, which had already been featured in the existing social media, trailer, and print campaigns, so I knew it would be a central element of the poster.

To achieve this, I set several key objectives:

  • Highlighting the Group’s Journey: I aimed to visually narrate the experiences and growth of the main characters throughout their time in this post-apocalyptic world. By focusing on their interactions and the environments they’ve faced, I wanted the poster to convey a sense of adventure and the enduring spirit of survival.

  • Embracing 3D Design: Recognising that traditional methods might not capture the energy of the film, I opted for a 3D approach. This allowed me to create depth, detail, and movement within the poster, enhancing the visual storytelling. The flexibility of 3D design enabled me to experiment with various angles and compositions that brought the scene to life.

  • Staying True to Brand Guidelines: I ensured that my design adhered to the established brand guidelines by carefully selecting colours, tones, and contrasts that resonated with the overall aesthetic of the Zombieland franchise. Maintaining a consistent visual language was essential in creating a cohesive look that fans would instantly recognise.

  • Utilising the Existing Logo as a Style Base: The existing logo provided a solid foundation for my design. By aligning my elements with the logo’s style, I ensured that all components of the poster came together seamlessly. This attention to detail helped the final piece feel unified and consistent, preventing any elements from appearing out of place.

Additionally, the poster was presented in a gallery to launch the social campaign, allowing fans and industry professionals to engage with the artwork in an immersive setting. This exhibition not only celebrated the film but also showcased the creative process behind the poster’s design.

Through this comprehensive approach, I aimed to create a visually striking poster that not only captured the spirit of Zombieland 2: Double Tap but also resonated with fans of the franchise. My goal was to convey the excitement and humour of the film while showcasing the characters' journey, ultimately inviting audiences to join them on their next adventure in this thrilling, zombie-infested world. The recognition of this work as award-winning further underscores the impact of the design in capturing the film’s essence.
