This project, centred around Sunday Riley's Clean Rinse Clarifying Scalp Serum, was an exploration in creating a photorealistic gold liquid with shimmering glitter flakes. The challenge was to capture the fluidity of the liquid and its stunning movement while avoiding the typical look of CGI or compositing. With a strong emphasis on art direction, the project aimed to establish a cohesive and adaptable visual style that could elevate the product’s branding.
The goal was to craft a visually striking representation of the serum, focusing on the following key objectives:
Creating the Liquid: Using 3D design, I developed a rich, photorealistic gold liquid, carefully integrating delicate glitter flakes that shimmered with dynamic movement. The intricate details of the liquid were brought to life, ensuring the final result felt natural and captivating.
Art Direction & Composition: Strong art direction was key to ensuring the final visuals aligned with the brand’s aesthetic. By carefully composing each scene, I aimed to highlight the liquid’s beauty, allowing it to flow over the product in a way that felt organic rather than artificially inserted. The composition focused on creating depth, balance, and a sense of movement, resulting in a more impactful layout.
Avoiding the CGI Look: To maintain realism, I paid particular attention to the lighting and shading of the gold liquid, ensuring it behaved naturally within the scene. The challenge was to blend the elements so seamlessly that the scene never appeared to be “composed” or digitally manipulated.
Maintaining Brand Aesthetic: The final result needed to reflect Sunday Riley's sophisticated and premium brand image. Through clear art direction, I was able to create a distinctive visual style that not only worked for this product but could also be adapted for future campaigns, establishing a cohesive brand identity.
